A Suite at Kitsilano Cottage

When you’re travelling away from home, what you want most is a comfortable place to put your head down for the night. Hotels are a popular choice, but there’s something distinctly impersonal about being one of hundreds. Christopher de Hrussoczy Wirth, owner of A Suite @ Kitsilano Cottage, wants to change that by giving people a cozy home away from home.

“When my wife and I started this business in 2000, we were doing a lot of travelling and asked ourselves once we bought the house – it had this secondary suite – ‘What are we going to do with it?’” Christopher recalls. “And we decided we would offer people what we would most like when we travelled, which was basically a fully self-contained suite that offers people the equivalent of having their own apartment in the city, and mostly emphasizing privacy and quiet.”

Sadly, Christopher’s wife has passed away since then, but he’s kept up the suite both as a testament to her and because his passion lies in giving people a comfortable place to call home on their travels. The bungalow house features its own private entrance leading into an upscale suite with a full kitchen, a master bedroom with a king-sized bed, a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed, and a warmly decorated living room with a flat-screen TV. And to make the suite even more charming, it’s nestled in the heart of Vancouver’s artsy Kitsilano neighbourhood, only a few blocks away from the much-loved Jericho Beach Park.
