“Knitting is not just using yarn,” says Tina Barrie, owner of Soper Creek Yarn. “It’s a form of expression, plus you use your mind because you’re deciphering code. Sometimes people even call it a kind of yoga or meditation.” The knitting clinics and stitching sessions featured bi-weekly at Tina’s store are one way that customers get to switch off, dedicate themselves to their latest project and absorb tips and tricks from the teacher. “You can learn to knit or do something more complicated,” explains Tina.
For knitting supplies, you need look no further than the spacious 1, 200 square feet of Soper Creek Yarn. Tina stocks yarn, notions, knitting patterns and felting supplies as well as knitting bags, accessories and presents. “The gifts are geared towards knitters, but can suit anyone,” she says. “We sell wool socks from Ontario and Quebec, fun Blue Q socks and items like mugs with sheep on them.”
Tina can always be found at the store to point you in the right direction alongside two other knowledgeable part-time staff.
