We knew about the Port Huron restaurant in the U.S.A. but had not been to the Canadian McCarthy's yet, we had a been told by friends it was just as good if not beter, and we concur with them the food was so fresh, not at all greasy, the salad was fresh and the service was great, i might add the place was very busy, so overall this is Sarnia's best kept secret restaurant deff recomend !!!
Great meal, service was great owner McCarthy was there and asking people how their meal was,small restaurant but is very relaxed atmosphere and you feel like you are at home. You can not find little rest like these any more, a quality chicken and not greasy

Had a party of 6 and the food was great, chicken was very tender and was better than Port Huron we thought. The chicken wings were huge and overall it was one of the best chicken taste we have had, they need delivery i am sure people would love to have this food in the comfort of their own home

I love McCarthy's I used to work in Sarnia and we went all the time with the girls from work. Now I work out of town and I haven't been in months. I'm eight months pregnant and I've bugged my husband so much that we're going tomorrow night again.. Can't wait...
My wife and I have eaten here several times. I have have been a fan of Chicken in the Rough from the Crystal Bar in Port Huron since I was a kid and was glad to see a Canadian location. We find the food is as good as the Port Huron location but the servings are bigger, the restaurant is cleaner and, now that Ontario is non-smoking, the air is cleaner.
To be honest, Chicken in the Rough's peices of chicken (legs/thighs) are not very appetizing. Similar is the taste of their fries. They are very dry and stringy. They give you a heaping pile of them which seems like a good thing at first glance but they are not worth ordering. On the other hand, if you order the chicken strips instead of the peices, and a salad instead of the fries, it is a spectacular meal. The chicken strips are extremely delicious. Their salads as well, are also very good. The chicken comes with dipping sauce. I recommend the dill sauce. Excellent.

Great resteraunt, it is excellent to dine at with your family or your friends. This resteraunt stands out from the other resteraunts, it's great! I visit this resteraunt at least once a month, it is just like the Chicken in the Rough in Port Huron, Michigan. I would definatly reccomend visiting this resteraunt.
Food was great. Just as good as in Port Huron. Server was very friendly and helpfull. I had the good chicken soup. It was piping hot the way I like it. The only off thing I can say is that it seemed to take a while for the soup to be served..........Harry
I have had take out from this restaurant twice and will not do it again. There is a group of us from Sarnia that visit the Port Huron Chicken in the Rough usually 2-3 times a month and not only can you pay in Canadian and it still is cheaper (including bridge toll) the food is much better. The Chicken was under cooked and the did not taste anything like the Port Huron site. The fries had not only been reheated but were barely even warm. Our appetizer of chicken gizzards had no batter on them and were extremely over cooked. When we got our meal home (which is a 4 minute drive) the food was sitting in a pool of condensation water. So overall the whole experience of both visits is something we will not repeat or recomend to others.
