Every day is a sunny day at Broadview Bakery and Deli. With wholesome breads, Montreal-style bagels, fair trade Ethiopian coffee and other treats, Broadview Bakery and Deli offers a selection that is both nutritious and delicious. It's almost impossible not to smell its sweet aromas while strolling along Queen Street East. “I am always keeping it up with my quality,” says owner Neetu Singh. “This is my bread and butter.”
Neetu and her husband Sunny have been feeding Toronto's Riverside neighbourhood since 1995, following in the footsteps of Sunny's parents. The Punjabi couple didn’t plan to pour their hearts and lives into the family business, but it was thriving and they found themselves helping out at the bakery almost every day. Neetu had studied travel and tourism, immigration consulting, accounting, business communications and aviation, while Sunny earned a computer analytics diploma from Seneca. Though they worked in different fields before they came to Canada, they soon agreed that rolling dough, icing cakes and making tasty treats for the community would be a much more enjoyable way to spend their time.
