A Yoga Pioneer In the Capital Region

When Yoga For Today started in 2001, it was one of the first dedicated yoga studios in the Sherwood Park and Edmonton area, but its roots actually go back much further. After studying for more than 10 years with Sherwood Park’s yoga guru, Gerda Krebs, Chris Erdman Boyko made the natural progression of moving the home-based studio she had run for seven years into the Franklin’s Inn in Sherwood Park.

At that time, formal yoga studios were few and far between, and yoga hadn't hit the mainstream popularity it enjoys now, so Chris’ vision of Yoga For Today was truly ahead of its time. Her goal to make a difference was fuelled by a tight-knit community of yoga instructors and long-practiced yoga students. With a solid community of support, Yoga For Today has grown to offer more than 50 classes weekly with something for all participants.

It is our years of experience that makes a difference to students and clients coming to our studio. They know they are in the hands of experienced, practiced yoga teachers and therapists. - Tonya Kemp, marketing manager

Yoga for Today offers yoga classes, various types of holistic therapy, such as massage, and exercise therapy.

Holistic Services to Suit Everyone

One of the longest standing yoga studios in Alberta, Yoga For Today also specializes in holistic therapies including hot stone, relaxation and therapeutic massage, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, infrared sauna treatment and manual lymphatic drainage (a gentle massage of the face and neck to encourage drainage of the lymph nodes).

There is also exercise therapy offered here, which is something you won’t find in many places in the capital region. Patients experiencing chronic pain spend one on one time with an experienced and qualified instructor certified in Egoscue Therapy. This unique therapy focuses on posture and is tailor made to the specific issues for each client. The patient learns how to realign after an injury, trauma or stress with an integrated approach of Eastern and Western knowledge.

Yoga Teacher Training

On top of classes and therapies, Yoga For Today is a yoga school for training and certifying yoga teachers. “It is our years of experience that makes a difference to students and clients coming to our studio. They know they are in the hands of experienced, practiced yoga teachers and therapists,” says Tonya Kemp, Yoga For Today’s marketing manager.

Yoga For Today is proud to be a part of the Strathcona neighbourhood and enjoys giving back. Twice a year, it hosts Yoga For A Week, which invites participants to attend classes in exchange for a donation to the Strathcona Food Bank. The team at Yoga For Today feel blessed to be a part of the community, and their studio has become a second home and sanctuary for many. Making a positive difference in people’s lives is a privilege they take to heart and are grateful for each and every day they are able to do so.
