Furnace Maintenance Tips

Nobody likes to hear a funny sound coming from their furnace or water heater – more often than not it means a call to a technician and a hefty bill. Ali Shojaii, the owner of BC Heat Co, doesn't like those sounds either. Although he’s on the other side of the table, he understands what it means to be a worried homeowner and puts this experience to use to make his company different. Rather than driving up the price for every little thing, Ali prefers to advise and educate homeowners. “It’s important to be honest with the customer and everything they need,” he says.

He understands homeowners just want their furnaces to work and never pressures them. “Everything I know, I transfer it to customers, and I let them know my recommendation and suggestion,” he says. “For example, dryer vents – they catch fire easily and, according to fire departments, they should be upgraded to aluminum flex.”

Doing the Job Right the First Time

Ali's honesty in the industry is an important key to his success, and he’ll be the first one to tell you BC Heat Co really is the odd duck out. When he started the company in 2005, it was with the intention of fixing homeowners’ problems once – and never again. “We don’t have any redoing in our job,” Ali says proudly. “That’s what makes us unique compared to other companies…. We always double-check, or triple-check everything, and make sure everything is safe and really take time for a job to make sure it’s going to be done properly.”

Beyond offering their technical expertise and getting the job done right the first time, Ali and his team are considerate when they enter their customers’ homes: they take their shoes off to protect flooring and carpets and do their best to keep pets safe and out of the way.

Customer Service is the Number One Goal

With Ali’s analytical mind and wealth of experience in the heating and plumbing industry, he could have easily taken his skills to one of the big companies and retired there. But he chose not to, because one of the most important things in life for him was building deep relationships. Ali has deliberately kept BC Heat Co at a cozy size: he employs just enough staff to comfortably handle any job, but not so many that the community can’t greet the team like friends.

It’s no wonder he says the best part of his job is “when I see the customer is happy.” Ali understands that the meaning of success isn’t just getting rid of a leak or knocking sound, but to be genuine, personable, knowledgeable and friendly and to make it part of the job. “The customer service,” he says, “is very, very important for us.”
