Yoga In My School

When Donna Freeman was introduced to yoga many years ago she immediately realized the benefits it had to offer. After a trip helping out her son’s class one day she saw the importance yoga could have for kids as well. “I volunteered in my son's kindergarten and I offered to teach them yoga in gym class,” she recalls. “The kids loved it, they were nice and calm and peaceful by the end and the teacher couldn’t believe the impact it had on them. I thought, ‘this is gold, this is absolutely gold.’ For parents, for administrators, for educators, this is exactly what these children need.” And Yoga In My School was born.

Donna now goes into schools and other youth organizations to teach the kids about mindfulness and give them techniques to be peaceful and calm. Yoga In My School also provides the resources, training and classes for anyone else interested in teaching yoga to children.

“One of the huge benefits is that children are growing, so you are helping them form their neural pathways,” says Donna. “There are certain periods of growth where you can develop and hone that growth in positive ways by finding peace and calm.”
