North Vancouver's awe-inspiring Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is arguably one of the most recognized and beloved attractions in the province. Nestled within the rainforest and suspended high above the Capilano River, the iconic suspension bridge attracts more than one million visitors from around the world each year.

Current owner Nancy Stibbard started out serving ice cream to guests when her father, Rae Mitchell, first purchased the park in back in 1953. “I was six and I loved everything about the park, especially the suspension bridge,” she recalls. Nancy purchased the park from her father in 1983 and has made it her mission to ensure that the park stays as naturally beautiful and unspoiled as possible.

The 27-acre park is home to a variety of wildlife and numerous exhibits and attractions. At the epicentre of the venue is the breathtaking suspension bridge. Built in 1889, the 450-foot bridge stretches out 230-feet above the Capilano River.

    Family Outings at their Finest

The Capilano Suspension Bridge is great family fun. The central part of this attraction is of course the bridge itself. 80 metres above the Capilano River it is often gut-check time to head out on the bridge and take a look over the side as it sways with the other visitors or, worse, the breeze. There isn't much to worry about but it is an exhilarating experience nonetheless. Beyond the bridge there is another equally exhilarating experience in the Treetops Adventure. Picture being high above the forest floor and going from tree to tree on a series of suspension bridges and getting to rest on platforms attached to the trees. Very cool. They have a great gift shop and lots of opportunities to learn about the history of the bridge and the first nations history in the area. A great deal for local residents too is that you can buy an unlimited membership good for a year for the same price as regular admission.
