Inspired by the successful cupcake shop in Calgary she used to frequent with her friends, Lisa Low moved back to Vancouver and got the whole family involved in opening HappyCakes.

“I always knew I wanted to have my own business, I love creating a product and developing a brand. Cupcakes and cakes just suit my personality. It’s nice to create something that makes people happy, so we decided to dive in,” says Lisa, who co-owns and operates the shop with her husband, Shawn. “We live five minutes from the store and my whole family is involved. Our girls are always here and my dad is our head baker. He retired quite early, so it’s a fun retirement job for him,” says Lisa.

Although their two young daughters, Isabella ("Izzy") and Emma both love cupcakes, Emma loved them even before she could correctly ask for one. “She used to point at cupcakes, clap her hands and yell "happy for me!” And that’s how we came up with the name HappyCakes,” laughs Lisa.
