I honestly love this restaurant. I have been multiple times with family and friends, and they are always fantastic. The staff is amazing, and the owners are wonderful. Like every restaurant, they may have a rough or busy night, but they are constantly doing their best.
Favourite meal would probably be the mediterranean pasta upstairs, and the greek salad downstairs.
I'm a vegetarian, and even though they don't have too many options, they're always willing to work with us to create something veg friendly!

Several visits to the Railside have convinced me not only does it have good food and fast and friendly service but most importantly it has consistency. Have yet to show up when they were having a bad day, always good! The secret to this place is show up at lunch hour or dinner time for the best food and always always eat in the lower dining room where you order your food at the counter. Some sort of evil parrallel universe Railside lives in the upper dining room where you sit and wait for a server, shame though as it has a decent mural to look at.
We would like to thank the staff at Railside for making our visit very pleasurable. The staff was very friendly and the food was amazing. We do not live in the Port Hope area but will definitly be making another trip. The decor was very nice and the atmosphere very relaxing. I would highly recomment the Railside Restaurant.
We decided to try this place after our dinner plans at another restaurant fell through. The service was fantastic. Our server was prompt, friendly, attentative and informative. Even though we arrived fairly late, we weren't rushed or made to feel like we were inconveniencing anyone. Our starter was delicious-a grilled, greek cheese, accompanied by pita wedges and bruschetta. The server pours brandy over the cheese and ignites it at the table. Fantastic! My husband had the bruschetta feta sirloin, which was cooked to perfection. The veggies were done properly, not over-cooked. We shared baklava for dessert, beautiful presentation as well as delicious, and affordable! ($3.95 for two pieces, warmed and served with white/milk chocolate drizzle and whipped cream) The decor is lovely, the lighting is perfect for a romantic dinner, and the chairs are very comfy! We highly recommend The Railside and we wil be back!

I never had problems with railside before, i find food ok. but last night i took my guest there and he ordered a steak. it was cold and had to return it. when it came back it did not taste right. i had to spit it out when i tasted it. we asked if they could do it again. the waitress came back and said that they could not do anything else but the manager was offering 10% discount OR a free dessert. i find this pathetic. it was very disappointing as we were not looking for freebies. we want good food when we dine out. it is not how you run a restaurant, offering guests 10% discount bec. of bad food. FYI, i give more than 20% tip. not returning.
My 3rd visit to Port Hope and my third restaurant, yes I will visit Port Hope no to this terrible restaurant. I ordered steak with corn and potatoes. Steak was cold, I complained steak returned after been thrown on a dirty grill and ended up tasting like metal.
I complained and was made to look cheap as if I should not complain about the quality of food. Waste of money and a shame as a few bad reviews can make or break a restaurant. Nothing special here.
Recommendation avoid at all costs, unless you like poor quality food.
The manager should be ashamed that she is allowed to accept such low standards of food.
Oh and one other thing, the waitress never asked me if my food was okay; maybe they know they always serve bad food.

Not impressed! We were driving through Port Hope and this looked like a nice place to have lunch. We were very disappointed when we went inside and found we had to order our food at a counter and then have it delivered to our crowded corner tables. Restaurant was very busy and only the counter section was open. Only one woman cleaning tables and delivering food. My clubhouse and fries arrived cold as did my hubby's fries. We sent them back. They replaced the fries but my clubhouse was obvioulsy just stuck in the microwave to warm it up -- the lettuce and tomato were warm!!! ug!!!. I asked for the manager and was told the owner had just arrived for the day. She did come to the table and apologized but it didn't seem very sincere. They remade my sandwich which ended up being very good. Others in the party found their meals to be "okay". The gravy for the fries was very, very bland. Not a place we'll be returning to.
The Railside has been a favourite of our for years. The food is always good and prices are the best in the area. Recently upgraded the ambience is wonderful. Thanks Chris
We went there for our anniversary; it was very romantic. The food was absolutely delicious; the service and atmosphere were perfect as well. (And the food came surprisingly fast.) This is our favourite place to go in the Cobourg-Port Hope area.
My husband and I have visited this restaurant about 3 times in the past year and a half. We have been there with other people over the years, but I think this fine restaurant has only improved with time. Great food and service
This is my favorite meal. I visit Port Hope frequently as I used to live there and my family and I always go to railside for dinner. Although the service is kind of slow, and they usually never get the bill right when we have two bills at one table, its the best liver i've ever tasted!
Our fourth visit -New Years Eve we were very pleased with all aspects of our meal and service. The second trip was to the casual section and it was fine. Last week in the dining room we asked if Lemon potatoes were served with the
souvlaki dinner and were told NO, when I expressed disappointment we were rudely told that they could not please everyone. We serve French Fries, Red potatoes and baked. TODAY we were very disappointed - I did try the souvlaki dinner but it's not the same with french fries and what there was of the greek salad was buried under dry rice and fries. My wife had the Gyro on a pita and claims she could not identify the taste of the meat and did not eat it.
The Railside is hands down port hope's most consistent restaurant. Great food, super priced
yet unpretentious which more than a few places seem to be. The owners are excellent at service,..OPA!! I recommend all my clients from both in & out of town there.

What a delightful discovery! The restaurant we intended to go to was closed and so we found ourselves looking for another restaurant to dine in prior to seeing Oklahoma at the Capitol Theatre. We luckily came upon Railside and it is definitely our new favourite. In addition to all the positive comments you read in other reviews, we were amazed to find that Railside has an excellent ramp that enabled us to go up several stairs into the dining room (my husband is in a wheelchair). The owner and other staff were friendly, accommodating and altogether wonderful.
