Business has been increasing steadily at Atlas Espresso Bar since the Front Street café opened in 2014. But when Nathan Loberg took over a year later and asked his brother, Josh, for help, the seemingly middle-of-nowhere coffee shop became a neighbourhood hangout for a growing number of condos dwellers. “We’re trying to bring that community feel,” says Nathan, noting that, at this point, he and Josh are on a first-name basis with just about every condo security guard in Portland and Front Street area. They can pretty much predict who’s coming in at any given day or hour.

Nathan and Josh grew up in Alberta and have travelled around Canada, gaining restaurant and kitchen experience along the way. Working together is also nothing new for these guys. “I couldn’t be happier about it,” Josh says of his decision to move to Toronto and work with his brother. “I was blown away by the community already cultivated here. It’s an urban oasis.”
