Attention to detail: Edmonton restaurants that hit the mark

Quality, quality, quality - I can’t say it enough. What makes a restaurant consistently good is the quality of food, attention to detail and the level of service provided. The following restaurants have been serving up delicious eats for years and know what it takes to keep you coming back for more.

Tzin Wine & Tapas Ltd

1
10115 104 St NW, Edmonton AB T5J 0Z9

This tiny restaurant packs a big flavour punch, so don’t be discouraged by the size of it – they know how to do food! I’d definitely make a reservation for Tzin, as there’s a good chance that walk-ins wont be accommodated right away. I’d opt for the paella, if it’s in season, as their menu changes constantly. The staff here are very friendly, and won't hesitate to explain where your dish came from, how it was prepared and what kind of wine would best accompany it. This place is a must if you’re in the mood for sharing and wine!

XIX Terwillegar

5940 Mullen Way NW, Edmonton AB T6R 0S9

I first spotted this gem in South Terwillegar, tucked away in strip mall, but they’ve since expanded into St. Albert. If you sit on the restaurant side, I recommend a seat next the kitchen, if available, so that you can peek in on the craziness that goes on right before your eyes. Some recommendations from the menu are the hoisin-glazed beef short ribs, Pacific chinook salmon and, my personal favourite, the Atlantic lobster ravioli. The price is steep but it’s worth it for that creamy, rich, perfectly cooked ravioli – it’s one of the reasons I keep coming back.

Bottega Italian Kitchen Bar Off Whyte

10335 83 Ave Nw, Edmonton AB T6E 2C6

Time can be a good testament to how fine a restaurant can be, as Packrat Louie has certainly been around for a long time. The French fare here is complemented by an intimate setting in a historic brick building, located just off of Whyte Avenue. Many of the menu items have changed since I’ve been here last, but one item that has remained on the menu for years is the lemon pizza – it is a fan favourite, and is something that you must try! Also note worthy are the desserts … any of them!

Casual meals are great for when you’re short on time, don’t want anything fussy, or you simply just want to leave the house in your pajamas. The following casual eats promise to deliver the flavour that your taste buds crave, wont break the bank and they wont judge your outfit choices either … well, hopefully.
Life is short, which probably means that you should eat dessert for dinner at least once in your life. I mean, if you can eat cake for breakfast, who says that you can’t have dessert for dinner? Either way, these places will keep your sweet tooth in check whether you choose to eat them during the day or at night. [Photo: Moxie’s white chocolate brownie]
