Zehra & Karim Kaba have loved chocolates for as long as they can remember. Having a lot of business experience in other independently owned chocolate stores, the husband and wife team decided to find something unique to bring to Canada.
“We fell in love with the artisan product [at Fannie May], the packaging and the brand,” Zehra says. “We have seen nothing like it in Canada and it is an established brand. We had to go for it. Of course, the beginning was not easy: we are a new brand to Canada and had to first search for the right location, and then prove that our product is far superior, especially for the price.”
In July of 2012, they opened the very first Fannie May Chocolates shop in downtown Calgary. They soon followed up with another shop in south-east Calgary.
“From 2015 onwards, we would like to expand throughout Calgary and Alberta,” Zehra says, “then western Canada and to the east.”
