Catherine Morosoff sometimes doesn’t notice it’s closing time at her store — she describes her children’s boutique in Ladner as a “happy place” where moms and babies come to shop, chat or just meet other people.

Buttercups Children’s Boutique, located in the historic fishing village of Ladner, offers high quality children’s clothing and dance wear, and Catherine likes that it has become a place where moms hang out and connect — often letting their children play in the back of the store.

Catherine bought  Buttercups in 2009 after working as a dental assistant for 21 years. At the time, her daughter, who was on maternity leave, often passed the store and she jokingly told her mother she should buy it.

But the joke turned serious and Catherine ended up turning Buttercups from a children’s clothing consignment store into a children’s boutique of new apparel. Clothing at the store ranges from newborn sizes to size 10 and caters to both boys and girls.

A children’s boutique is a happy place to work, Catherine says; even if a cranky baby is in the store, it doesn’t bother her. “It’s so much fun — I never look at the clock,” she says. “I have lots of moms who come on their daily walk and just let their kids play in the play area.” Over the years, she’s seen mothers come in pregnant and she’s watched those children grow.

Some older customers just come in to browse from time to time to get “a little dose of cuteness.”

    I have been going to Buttercups for years. The clothes are amazingly cute. The quality is unlike any other. The clothes never tear. And the resale value is great. If you choose to pass your items along. I find the manager and owner is so kind and helpful. She remembers your name and often the sizes that you normally look for. I would recommend this business to anyone looking for great quality, great style and memorable clothing.
