Whether you aspire to master riffs like Hendrix or dream of developing virtuoso piano skills to become the next Diana Krall, channelling a range of influences to forge a unique individual sound is just one of the skills students learn at Deep Cove Music (DCM) in North Vancouver.
Founded by owner Tyler Pearson in 1997, Deep Cove Music is a music store and school providing youth music programs and boot camps for developing bands. Deep Cove Music resides under the larger umbrella as DCM Entertainment, which includes DCM Studios (established in 2006), a multimedia facility delivering production in audio, video, web graphics and print duplication (marketing).
"The biggest component at DCM is our private lessons with approximately 300 students a week," says Tyler. "There's a lot to be said for helping people manage their day-to-day through music. I get to be a sounding board for students and help steer them along, while connecting on a personal level."
