ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT, ACTUALLY ONLY PALCE I EAT OUT. LOVE THE FOOD CHOICES, AND THE VALUE. GREAT SERVICE, GREAT ATMOSPHERE, I BEEN A REGULAR AT THE MANDARIN FOR YEARS, BETWEEN OSHAWA AND PICKERING, TOTALLY RECOMMEND THE MANDARIN. DB
I went around supper time and i was pleasantly surprised by how i was seated as soon as i arrived. I made the Reservation for 7:30 but got there alot sooner and was seated promptly which was pleasing, the prime rib was wonderful, everything else was fresh, clam chowder was not too hot which was good, service was wonderful can't wait to go back again.
For buffet food this is just great, live up in the Ottawa Valley for a while and see what they call chinese and you will think this is fine dining.
It is a little costly, service is fine. It's clean and they take care of you. Food seems fresh enough, there is enough rotation that it doesn't get all hard and stiff. They should not bother with Japanese food however that is a shame. But overall I will be back when I can afford it.
I went to mandarin Pickering last week and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the Moon festival and they also added a few new dishes that were fantastic! Everyone was exceptionally polite from the hostesses to the servers. Maybe what I heard about the management changing is true because compared to our last visit, this time eveything was fantastic! Overall it was a great experience for everyone, we're looking forward to going back again soon!
While the selection is great and the salads are above-par, the hot dishes were a disappointment. I actually witnessed an employee pour hot water into a dish and stir it up to make it look fresh even though it had previously congealed. With regards to the service, I recognize how they want to portray a welcoming atmosphere, but hearing "welcome to Mandarin" 50 times while walking to my table is quite annoying. With respect to the management, the gentleman who manages the restaurant is extremely good at yelling and belittling the employees in public, but terrible with the guests. This restaurant has potential, but it is far from achieving it at this point.
was excellent it was on a busy friday night. I see a pattern in that the best and only times to eat there are just prior to peak (5ish) and never late in the evening or just after a major food rush as we've eaten there on off times and that absolutely explains the difference in food quality and service I've seen in these reviews.
The big MANDARIN. The buffet of buffets. With such a large establishment, price, food and service go hand in hand. Selection is vast and the amount of food is plenty. Lots of fried food, seafood and salads. Be sure to catch the food early though as the food sometimes is out too long and gets dry and tough :(. Seems to me for the price we pay = the selection of food we get. Not necessarily the quality. Service is good and thorough.
I went with my friend,her mom and her mom's friend and she was being bad..but the food made all the difference! We had about 3 full plates of delicious crab legs and tons of desert and it was fantastic! The waitresses were so nice and the washrooms were so clean, I want to go today!
It's expensive but it's soooo good!Go there sometime!

I go there for sit down and also take out for years. Consistently excellent quality food. The price may be a squeek higher than other smaller places. It's obviously following the corporate model, but hey, it works!! They have it down to a science. Everyone knows Mandarin quality. Big selection. What is there to say. Oh, one thing: stop saying "Welcome to Mandarin". It's tired and annoying. LOL !!
