Knechtel's on the Beach

It was my first time there and loved it! I ordered the perch and fries (ate inside, so their great little buffet was included with my meal!) The perch was done to perfection, so tasty! The buffet was great, with the different salads and the amazing fruit to finish my meal off. I enjoyed the old pictures, so much history there! Our server was very friendly and most attentive. I will be back, I enjoyed it so much!

Perch and More

We usually go to another restaurant for Perch in Port Dover. We stopped by the kiosk at lunch and had an open perch snack box. The fish and contents was great for the money. The fish was excellent and fresh. We were surprised to find that fish was being carried and supplied from knechtel's to our favourite restaurant which was more expensive. Will definitely eat there again.

Won't be returning

The food was awful! Soggy overcooked perch and halibut. You'd think that a restaurant thats famous for fish and chips would use fresh-cut chips but they were awful greasy,frozen ones that tasted like they'd been re-heated several times. The server was pleasant but painfully slow. The toilets were unsavoury to say the least.We came away with the feeling that this was just a tourist rip-off

It's a shame. There was a time when you ordered pearch from places such as this and it was battered and cooked fresh. Now, they just grab some precooked pearch off a rack containing hundreds, and just reheast it in a fryer. The end result was soggy, greasy pearch. It's just such a shame to do this to such a wonderful tasting fish.

Perch is excellent, best price in town, the plastic cutlery makes you feel untrusted, the service isn't the greatest, but the food makes up for that, could have used a cold beer with my meal but they don't serve alchohol????? We go to Dover once a month for dinner, we usually go to the erie beach because we like a cold beer with our perch, other than that it's great.

This is the best place in Dover to get Lake Erie perch at a reasonable price. The fish is deep-fried and always light and flaky on the inside and golden brown and crispy on the outside. The fries are not the best, but the fish is really what you come for. Salad bar (which is included with the snacks and dinners) is always fresh and refreshed often. Fruit salad is gigantic and makes a great free and light dessert. I have come for at least the last 10 years on Mother's day but also in August while on vacation. It is worth the trip & the calorie slurge :)
