Needs a new server!

Went to Ethiopian House because I was actually craving Ethiopian. I remember dining here couple years ago and the service was actually friendly so I expected a similar experience. The food again was pretty good. My friend and I ordered a veggie plate for two where we can try 8 different veggie dishes in small portions. Great choice for us especially we didn't understand what the menu was offering! Be prepared to use your fingers because that's how you eat there, and it's fun but not easy if you're not used to eating with your fingers. The food was pretty good. The service, however, is a different story. the server was a lady who didn't smile once and I wanted to ask for a tablecloth change but she brushed me off. The water glasses looked dirty too. Overall, I'd personally try another Ethiopian restaurant if I'm craving it again.

I loved the place, the food, the drinks, the service, the prices, ..and did i say THE FOOD?haha I normally only get the vegetarian plate at Ethiopian restaurants, i've generally enjoyed it more than the meat platters, but that's mainly because i'm overly picky with my meats. The vegetarian platter is delightful though, and the place smells like an experience. You walk through that door and you know it'll be a meal to remember.

This is the best Ethiopian food in the city! Love the atmosphere. Love the coffee ceremony. Seems very authentic. Will visit again. Love the smell too!

enjoyable first experience but would not go back..food was not that flavourful. ordered one of the standard plates and all the dipping sauces tasted similar. no lamb options. felt hungry at the end

I really was not into this place but I can understand why people like it. I think the food is a little weird and find it a place university students recommend because they are trying to be eclectic. I did not love it, nor did I hate it. I was still hungry after we finished.

Great place, slightly misunderstood.

Based on these other reviews, I think this restaurant is somewhat misunderstood. If you don't like spicy food, or (heavens!) the idea of eating with your hands, you should avoid this place-- but if you are a little more open minded, you will appreciate the experience. The level of spiciness takes a little getting used to, but the dishes are very tasty, and excellently prepared. Service is slow, but I noticed that only one waitress was working the restaurant when I was there, and she seemed pretty busy! Ambience is lovely.

Food tasted ok but gave me stomach problems later in the night. It took a good 10-15 minutes before the waitress took our order. When we were ready to leave it was almost impossible to get our bill. We had to go play hide-and-seek just to find the waitress. I wasn't in a rush, but the table next to us got the coffee ceremony and the billowing smoke of burning frankincense was making it hard to breathe. I think they rely on the 'gimmick' of no utensils and coffee ceremonies rather than worry about things like quality food and good service. I'm not going back and don't suggest you go there in the first place.

me & my hubby are foodies. & we have a 9 month old baby, & so the waiting was killing. we went there expecting some basic courtesies. the service was bad. looked like the waitress was doing us a big favor. 1st of all in the weekend special,it said 2 pieces of chicken. but when our order arrived, she dumped 1 tiny piece into our big plate.it reminded me of my hostel days. the order took 30 minutes to arrive. but the bill took only 3 minutes. me & my hubby had a tug of war over that little piece of chicken. when we are exiting from the restaurant, our dear waitress was ahead of us. seeing a baby in my hand, she didnt have the decency to hold the door for me, i had the door banging on my face! i was disapointed with the service & i would not recommend ethiopian house to anyone.

Our server was very nice and the ambience in the restaurant was pleasing but the food was less than satisfactory. we didn't mind eating with our hands but for a big party of 8, 2 house specials is not enough. As well, there was a certain kind of meat we couldn't identify and the taste was for a very very aquired palate. No thank you.

If your going for a quick fix, dont go here but if you wanna go for a nice sit down dinner with a nice ambience, i would definitely recommend it. The service was friendly but slow but the food was great.

The service was kind of slow, and our server seemed to be a little short tempered or impatient. Our platter didn't take terribly long to arrive, and it was tasty. We had no issues using our hands. Another customer called our for cutlery and were told to use their hands (as is customary) and they had no problem abiding to that. Overall it was a pleasant experience. However, the only thing we didn't like was that they only served chicken as a lunch special. Everything else was beef or vegetarian.

The staff should warn customers about how long the food will take to be prepared when they order. Other than that,the food was deliscious.
