Sandy Aleksander

Situated on Queen Street East in the heart of Leslieville, Sandy Aleksander is a purveyor of fine local and imported specialty foods. Opened in 2013 by a businessman bearing the store's now-iconic name, the local food emporium has become a mainstay for neighbourhood foodies. In September 2014, culinary expert Max Ryan and his business partner, entrepreneur William Hubacheck, took ownership of Sandy Aleksander and began a modest revamping.

Upon entering the shop, customers immediately realize they're in good hands. “I love the creativity of the culinary industry, and the satisfaction of feeding hungry people,” Max says. He offers customers a tour of the space, providing rich details about the various edible treasures on the shelves. Trained in culinary arts, Max worked as a chocolatier before joining the original staff at Sandy Aleksander when it first opened. He has stayed on and now he and William are expanding the shop’s selection and recreating the visitor experience.

Sandy Aleksander is known for its variety of artisanal charcuterie sourced from local suppliers such as Oliffe in Leslieville and Dolce Lucano in Woodbridge, Ontario. Customers will also find a selection of prepared foods, cheeses, grocery items and party pickings. For those on the go, the kitchen staff offers ready-made healthy meals. Sandy Aleksander is keen to showcase new artisans, including Laura Slack, whose handmade, hand painted chocolates are a cross between delicious dessert and fine art.
