Coincidentally sharing its name with the famous dance theatre in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tango Palace Coffee Co. has brought a piece of European style to the Queen East strip in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood. “We like personality,” says owner Jeff Marsh. “That’s something that sets us apart from the robotic service standards that are set by most chains.”

In the early 90s, Jeff and Tango Palace barista Valentine worked for a large coffee chain. It was here they first developed a taste for the world of coffee. In April 1993, Jeff decided to branch out and open Tango Palace.

Since then, Jeff has worked hard to establish the indie coffeehouse as one of the neighbourhood’s best café’s with a unique and personable atmosphere. Indeed, regulars covet the eclectic ambiance, which offers a distinct departure from the corporately owned café along the strip. The bronze detailing, plush, crimson chairs and Romanesque statue on the wall make an afternoon here feels like a visit to the home of a 1930’s Spanish artist.
