Dr. Christian Guenette smiles as he looks around his clinic. “I always wanted to create a one-stop shop for healing," he says. "We’re close; we have a great team.”

Dr. Guenette, a chiropractor and life coach, started Back2Health in 2001. The Kitsilano health and wellness clinic now has an integrated team on a mission to alleviate unnecessary suffering through a comprehensive, holistic approach.  Practitioners include sports chiropractor Dr. Jamie Hennessy, psychotherapist Boris Kerjner (specializing in neurofeedback), massage therapist Rochelle Shimerl, deep tissue laser therapist Sukh Brach and office manager Shelli Guenette.

“Most painful conditions are a result of what’s happening in one’s life rather than what’s happened in their body,” Dr. Guenette explains. The root cause is usually stress and tension, which manifests in the body and impacts the nervous system. The result is tense muscles, compressed joints, misalignment and pain – all the things he sees in his clinic. “Chiropractic treatments plus soft tissue therapy do help the body feel better, but if we don’t address what’s caused the pain, symptoms are likely to reoccur.”

“Life stress, how people engage in life, and what they hold onto directly impacts the body,” says Dr. Guenette.  The doctor notes that the old medical paradigm doesn’t hold anymore, and mere physical treatment for physical problems doesn’t work.  North America boasts about having one of the most highly advanced medical systems in the world, yet we still rank quite low when it comes to our overall health and wellness. Dr. Guenette’s solution: “We can no longer separate mind and body when it comes to health care.”
