The school does a wonderful job of creating positive relationships amongst staff, students, and parents. The way they structure their programming and the various events enable a community to form. And the natural outflow of this secure sense of belonging comes the freedom to explore and learn.
Their Parent & Tot program is such a fantastic idea! I started going once a week with my youngest daughter and she had a chance to get to know her surroundings and routines. I had a chance to experience the type of care and programming she would receive. And the teachers had a chance to get to know my daughter and her needs. So, by the time I had to return back to work and she had to nap at Northwood, she transitioned without a tear in her eye. I have to say, we have gone to check out many other places and this was the only place that we saw genuine care and love. And when we stepped in to the JK/SK classroom with my older daughter, I was totally amazed by how much energy, excitement and joy there was amongst the students. It was very evident that they loved being there and had a lot of fun learning.
Now that both of my daughters are at the school, my husband and I are further blown away by how academically enriching the programming is. Before sending my older daughter to Northwood, she was attending a Montessori school. However, we began to see some of the weaknesses in the Montessori approach and how it didn't allow certain things to flourish. Yet, there are so many great things about Montessori programming that we didn't want to fully switch her over to an ECE approach. Northwood was the perfect answer to our dilemma, as they uniquely take the strengths of both theories and combine them in their programming.
If you're looking for a place that will address the social / emotional needs of your child as well as provide strong academic programming, this indeed is a place worth checking out.
