Jamie Fraser is happy to be working with people again. The co-owner of Heritage House Interiors in Ladner, who left behind a career in computer networks to take over the shop in 2007, likes nothing better than to serve customers and help them find that one item they’ve been looking for.

Before taking the helm at Heritage House Interiors — a fixture in the historic fishing village in South Delta for more than 40 years — Jamie had been working as an IT guy at Kwantlen College. He wanted to take a year off to work closer to home and his parents, the original owners of Heritage House Interiors, were starting to cut back on their working hours as well. But after settling in full-time at the store, Jamie didn't look back.

When he first started working in IT, he was helping students and staff fix their computer issues, and he enjoyed working with people. But as he continued there, he worked less with people and more with just machines.

“Here you have that human interaction — that’s what makes it interesting, especially finding that something someone has been looking for and can’t find anywhere else,” Jamie explains.

But running your own business melds your personal and work life more than a nine-to-five job, Jamie says.

“On your days off, you’re still doing business, but it’s something you like doing,” Jamie explains.

    I have been frequenting this store for a number of years and love the ever changing variety of goods they carry. I like that they use where possible suppliers and supplies that are local or from other parts of Canada. I have a sofa from them which is perfect. I have a chair I purchased from them and they covered for me. Excellent work in matching the upholstery design, making extra cushions. Currently I have on order bookcases and a desk - all will be made locally. Vancouver. Customer
