Liked: the fact you can go there with a bunch of people, carry a conversation with each other without having to shout, reasonable prices, attentive, sincere and friendly service. The deep fried pickles are served with a ranch sauce and are really awesome. The bruschetta and nachos are passable but far from memorable. I still think the nachos at Kool's are the best in town. We had a lot of fun here and would return but might try some of the entree meals next time. There is live entertainment, Thur seem to be a better line-up than Fri. Something about the unassuming, low-key vibe...I like it here.
Poachers Arms is definitely a pub. The atmosphere might be a bit dark for some but if you are looking for good real English pub food this is the place to find it. Portions are a good size and everything is reasonably priced. Its a great place to have a few drinks and still get a good meal. Last time I went I had the fish and chips. Fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was delicious. Everyone who came with was pleased with their meal. Unfortunately the staff could have been more attentive. It felt very much like they were not trying as it was not a busy hour for them.
Went here to meet some friends recently for lunch. The place is huge once you get in, lots of different rooms, sort of dimly lit. Reminded me of a basement (which IS where it is located by the way). Standard friendly service by our server was appreciated. The beer selection is just ok. I had a chicken wrap and it was decent and tasty. I'd get it again. Beer was fresh and served at the right temperature, though I really wish they'd serve a few craft beer options instead of offering junk like Coors or Mosehead. Overall, just ok. Standard pub.
good happy pub vibe. $15.50 for a pitcher aint cheap, though. at least they have moosehead. it's really annoying that restaurantica forces me to write more just to be able to post this.
The Steak and Kidney and the Steak and Mushroom pies at this place are pretty phenomenal and I have it on good authority they're made in house. The fillings are nicely moistened with gravy (with enough left over for the mashed potatos) and they're not mean with the meat which is always a good sign in a pie. With a beer or two you'll not be able to beat it for the price I think. A great place for an evening. The bar is efficiently run and the staff are genuine...which is a good thing if you like real people.
Went last Friday night for a beer, very nice atmosphere but my 28-year-old friend got IDed for ordering a DIET COKE!!! In all my years going out I have never seen a place ID someone who was obviously old enough to have alcohol, and was ordering a non-alcoholic drink. After seeing that I gave a tip of exactly zero cents. I'll give them another chance but I'll be keeping a close eye on the service.
it was excellent... i work in the same building, so we didn't eat in or anything, but the food is really good.
A fine fitting meal for me and my associates before we set sail to the north. Service was par and the grog ran freely. Will return if we can find the passage to the north.
