Angela and Whonda had a lot of fun when it came to choosing the name of their hair salon when it opened on Main Street in 2008. “We didn’t want to be obvious by choosing a name with ‘hair’ or ‘scissors’ in it,” says Angela, “so we dug a bit deeper to come up with something fun and memorable.” And so Rapunzel Salon was launched. The co-owners ran with the fairy tale reference and added their own tag line – “the place to let your hair down,” a phrase that has come to define the co-owners’ ultimate business vision.
“We’re not a corporate storefront nor are we a high-end design location that can be intimidating, not to mention premium priced,” explains Whonda. “We are the place where you can let your hair down in a setting that promises top-notch personalized service and affordable pricing in a relaxed atmosphere.”
The co-owners, including long-term employee Tia, collectively represent 54 years of hair styling, cutting and colouring experience. All three consider themselves career professionals and life long learners in a dynamic industry that demands being on top of trends, products and techniques.
This combination of experience and continual learning has definitely proven successful for the trio. After having kept track over the years, they learned that 50 per cent of Rapunzel Salon’s client base is returning customers, a benchmark that may well be the envy of many a corporate loyalty program.
