With the largest selection of gowns in Calgary, it’s easy to see why New York Fashions has been thriving since 1985. “We are more of a special occasion dress store. If you’re looking for a dress for a particular special occasion we’ll have it. We carry a lot of designers,” says owner Rina Walji.

New York Fashions features dresses from around the world. Rina often travels during the spring to cities like New York, Los Angeles, or Dallas to source new fashions, ensuring her store is up to date with graduation and party fashions for the upcoming seasons. “We don’t buy anything that’s dated. It’s all ahead of the game,” she explains. “If people go online and they see something they like, when they come to my store they will see the same dress. They don’t have to do any work to find it. It’s right here.”

When you walk into the large showroom you'll see hundreds of mannequins decked out in the various styles available. This display sets New York Fashions apart from other dress shops because it allows clients to get an immediate sense of what a dress actually looks like. “When it’s just on a rack it’s hard to see how it’s going to look on the body, but when you walk into my store you can actually visualize the whole dress,” notes Rina.
