The menu is not extensive and there was no overall 'theme' but the food we had was pretty good. They recommended a great wine and the waitress was excellent - both friendly and helpful. We booked at the last minute and were glad we did. Not a fine dining experience if that is what you want but a comfortable experience. We split a salad and the entree portions were a good size. My husband had a Thai noodle type dish and he really enjoyed it. I had the prime rib which came as I requested. We didn't have dessert but marvelled at a couple of plates that went by. Lire plus

We had a great time at Bijou and I don't agree with any of these negative reviews. To me a chalkboard menu and higher prices reflect this restaurant's commitment to local food and keeping things interesting during changing seasons. I respect this restaurant for providing quality food and taking their time rather than taking a touristy "more bang for your buck" approach. One that note though, I did notice the service was a little slow. Not really slower than I'd expect considering the care that goes into the food, but if you're rushing to catch a show this place is maybe not your best bet. When we had our Stratford trip we made our reservation on a night where we weren't seeing any shows and got to appreciate a slower paced and delicious meal. Lire plus

While in Stratford to see a play. we dropped in to the Boar's Head Pub. I had been there twice before, and thought my husband would like it too. Since we had had a late lunch we decided to have drinks before the play, and come back afterwards for something to eat. About 6:30 pm, we ordered draft (a Strongbow for me, and Coors Light for my husband) and then switched to whiskey. I had an Irish coffee (needed the caffeine before the play) and my husband had a rye and coke. After the play, around 11 pm, we returned. The place was rockin', with a live band and some people who had clearly spent the last 4 hours drinking! It got rather loud, but the music was good. I had Strongbow, and my husband stuck to rye and coke. The wings were very good -- big, meaty, lightly breaded, and with the right sauce. My husband had honey garlic, and I had hot (the server said it was Frank's Red Hot sauce, which was what I was looking for). There were 7 wings in a one-pound order, with a few carrots and celery sticks and dip, for $8.95 .I would definitely come back for the wings. The servers were very friendly and attentive during both visits. There were 2 servers who regularly stopped by to check on us, and who made us feel very welcome -- one of them recognized us when we returned, and warned us about the drunks who would be dancing when the band returned from break (she was right!). As far as pubs go, this one is great -- good food, lively atmosphere, good choice of draft, and great location on one of Stratford's main streets. The Boar's Head is within easy walking distance of the Tom Patterson Theatre, and slightly farther to the Avon and Studio Theatres. Lire plus

Confession: I don't come here for the food. I come because I live close by and I like the environment, especially when I'm eating alone. It's just a fun place to spend an hour, and I'm sure that's why it's always busy and obviously a successful business. I've been twice recently, and both times I ordered the sirloin steak. I'd normally stick to burgers and wings at this type of place, but the waitress was very convincing that steak was their specialty. The first time she was right! The first steak I had was every bit as good as what you'd get at, say the Keg on a good nite. I was quite impressed! So I went back two weeks later and ordered the same steak dinner. This time I was disappointed. Although it was cooked perfectly (to the medium rare spec I ordered), the beef wasn't of high quality. Instead it was tough and full of grizzle. Not a great experience and certainly not acceptable for a $25 entree. I'll no doubt go back to Jack Astors but I'm going to stick to pub fare. That's obviously what they're good at. Lire plus

Visited from out of the town to eat. To our unexpected surprise we were greeted by the rudest hostess. We decided to leave after not feeling welcome. Last night we decided to go out and try a restaurant we had never been to before. My husband said he felt like Indian food so we decided to try Curry's. What an enjoyable experience! Starting off we were presented with refreshing lime water, the decor was very classy with low lighting and Indian music faintly playing in the background. Our candlelit table was soon laden with scrumptious food starting with an appetizer called Onion Bhaji, six pieces of shredded onion breaded with spiced chickpea batter. Since we follow a vegetarian diet, we decided upon Vegetable Tandoori Masala as our main course. The spicy curry tomato was paired with fresh hot green chillies, spices and vegetable pllao creating an authentic Indian flavor. "Best curry I have ever tasted" was my husbands comment. Our waiter was very polite and attentive and filled out stainless water glasses on numerous occasions with a smile. I would highly recommend Curry's Restaurant for anyone looking for high quality Indian fare served in a fine dining setting. Lire plus

Absolutely fantastic! Perfect place to celebrate an anniversary or any romantic occasion.
