This was a sigularly phenomenal experience. All of our food was lick-your-plate excellent. I love their investment in local food producers. Their housemade breads, butters, pastas totally show it. We also were treated to a random complimentary amuse-bouche of a pork terrine with caramelized onions on crostini. Vanilla creme brulee was the single best creme brulee I've ever had--PERFECTLY burnt sugar. Truly amazing prices for food this good. ONLY down thought? Cocktails are expensive and taste like actual booze. Given that I'm normally a fruity liqour drinker, they were hard drinks to swallow! A connaisseur might feel differently. I first visited Allen's back in the 80's, not long after it opened, and I was instantly smitten. So much so, in fact that I moved into the neighbourhood! First I was a regular, then a nuisance, and finally a piece of furniture. I finally moved back to Markham in 1998, and cannot justify going anywhere south of Steeles Avenue without stopping into Allen's for lunch. The food is imaginative, superbly prepared, and so delicious, that even when I'm full, I often look at the menu again, just to see what I'll be ordering on my next visit! And the patio? I love beer and I love a long list of options recited to me by memory... there seem to be so many negative reviews about the Bier Markt but... it's a pub, really, and a spacious, respectable one with Great Beer at that. I was at the Esplanade location last Friday afternoon around 4pm with my husband and some friends and we had a fantastic time drinking pints of Steigl, Erdinger weissbrau, Jupiler, and sharing fondue--wish there was a ski hill nearby. I've been here often, mainly for the beer, but last Friday the atmosphere was great, really quiet and just right for a late lunch. I wish the decor was a little cozier inside. Lire plus

I have been at this restaurant twice. The first time was just ok. However the second visit left my guest and myself wanting more. So a group of us are going next week. My guest said that she felt comfortable not rushed and the servers were very pleasant. Food was very good and at the proper temperature. It is a little pricey but then I felt that we got what we paid for. Truly looking forward to the next visit. Liked the atmosphere and everything very clean and orderly. Lire plus
