Food was reasonably good, but nothing to rave about or complain about either. Portion sizes were a little large. We were on the patio which was fine, but the chairs were back-breakingingly awful and the patio and tables sort of gave the impression that things weren't all that clean. Wait staff was reasonably attentive but not overly friendly. The overall impression was one of a cramped, crowded space both inside and on the patio -too bad they couldn't expand their space. Excellent and cute family owned restaurant in Little Italy, Toronto. We had the pleasure of celebrating sweet Nonna's birthday (chef) We recommend the bruschetta, caprese salad, pizza. This was a sigularly phenomenal experience. All of our food was lick-your-plate excellent. I love their investment in local food producers. Their housemade breads, butters, pastas totally show it. We also were treated to a random complimentary amuse-bouche of a pork terrine with caramelized onions on crostini. Vanilla creme brulee was the single best creme brulee I've ever had--PERFECTLY burnt sugar. Truly amazing prices for food this good. ONLY down thought? Cocktails are expensive and taste like actual booze. Given that I'm normally a fruity liqour drinker, they were hard drinks to swallow! A connaisseur might feel differently. I've been to Brownstone's several times now, and it's always a good experience. Friendly staff, and good food. Their brunch gets busy on Sundays, and deservedly so, but we were able to make a reservation the night before for our not-so-small party. The banana and Nutella pancakes were delicious, but topped with syrup, were a bit rich for my delicate stomach. Good fresh orange juice. The decor is lively and interesting, though sitting near the front door can be drafty in cool weather. Lire plus
