This is the best restaurant in all of Victoria! I celebrated my birthday here with a group of 10 friends and everyone, including the vegans in the group had a great dinner! The food was excellent both times weve been. Myself, daughter, son, and 1 year old grandaughter visited today and the service was fast and tge server was so kind. The kitchen made the baby a roll without seaweed at our request. The server " Jade"? loved the baby and the baby didnt want to leave, holding out her arms to the server as we went out the door. The sushi was awesome. Especially the tuna rolls my boyfriend had that he couldn't stop raving about. To top it off the service is absolutely amazing. As a server myself I appreciate how welcoming they all are with genuine smiles and joy as well as presented a free apitizer to us both when we picked up our sushi for take out. I have been searching for this Sushi for years. It is as close to the original Yokohama restaurant sushi as I have ever tasted. (It's all about the homemade mayo that goes in the sushi) and delicious Sushi rice for the rolls! My favourite is the Yokohama roll...absolutely delicious in my opinion. LOVE! with so many options for Chinese in Victoria, you can't go wrong with Sampan Express. If you are looking for table side service, linen, candle light, may be a bottle of wine.....etc.. this would NOT be the place for you . They aren't the best but hey.... for around 10 bucks a head you get a decent meal , I had a 3 items combo from their hot table for just $9.25 + tax. my girlfriend Linda had a wonton soup......best wonton.....said Linda. I have tried dozens and dozens of Chinese Places in Victoria area (even in China Town), and abroad. This one, is by far the best I've tried in the last 20 yrs!! The food is authentic and full of flavour and yet very light (not greasy or heavy). It is DELICIOUS! But what I also like about this restaurant is it is very friendly and clean and tastefully decorated. I had friends that worked there said it is very clean, and the work ethic is known to be very high and they treat their employees very well. Prices are slightly higher than other Chinese places, but good value. Eat in, take out, or delivery available. I have known this restaurant since it first opened 15 years ago and has always been exceptional. This is a hidden gem! Highly recommended!!! Lire plus
