Went to this restaurant for the first time at lunch time. We had the lasagna, salad and garlic bread. The food was excellent and the staff is friendly and knows how to treat customers. The crust was thin and perfectly crispy, with a slight char that hinted at the traditional wood-fired baking method. Our absolute favourite for authentic italian. You know the restaurant is a gem when the local Italians eat there with their whole families (babies too!). As Marcello's is always packed, go early to get a seat (especially if your party is larger than 4) or expect to wait in line at least 30 minutes or longer. Service is prompt when seated and the lively atmosphere makes it very homey. The waiters are efficient, no-nonsense and definitely not snobby(as in other places), and they know the menus. On regular nights we share an appetizer, and dessert with our meals and we are stuffed!! The tirimisu is home made and heavenly; you could easily have seconds. I have been to other restaurants on College street, and quite honestly, at Marcello's the dishes are on par and above on quality. I'm not sure what these other people are talking about because I think this place is amazing. They have three locations now, and as a loyal customer, I have visited all of them. Each atmosphere is a little different, the most recent addition at Yonge/Eglinton (Piazzetta #3) is the nicest. More importantly, the food is consistently amazing, not to mention inexpensive. My guests and I have never been disappointed. The pastas are always fresh and the pizzas are always perfectly thin and remind me so much of my trip to Italy. My favourites are the Calamari, Penne Primavera and Arugala Salad. But I also love the funghi pizza (which ALWAYS has lots of mushrooms). My partner loves the grilled salmon and veal chop entrees. Everything I've ordered has always been fresh and delicious. Definitely recommend! Lire plus

This place is overpriced for what you get. My friend and I shared a light dinner, a glass of wine each and tea, and our bill (with tip and tax) came to $100. I ordered the gnocci in tomato sauce, which was very good, and the bread was tasty. But for a meatless meal with no dessert and no appetizer, the prices are too high. It seems like you're paying for atmosphere. The service was pretty good, but at the end when it got busier we had to signal for service. I think there's better value out there for the money. We go to Gamberoni a few times a year and it's always an amazing experience. Minestrone is the best in town and the seafood platter for two is just perfect - two kinds of fish, shrimp cooked two ways and the best calamari I've ever had. If you want something really special after dessert, ask Mike (the owner) for "his" coffee - it's espresso with some alcohol in it, not sure what kind, but just the perfect end for a perfect night out. We came here in a rush with tickets to a show. The servers were understanding and did everything in their power to accommodate. They were wonderful! The entrees were delicious - nice solid, fresh ingredients and very nice flavour profiles. The stewed lamb with the tagliatelle was perfectly cooked. The tortellone with the ricotta, pecorino and the radicchio was just perfect...satisfying and memorable. As for the dessert, we both agree with another review on this board that this quite possibly could be the best tiramisu in the city. Overall, great service, great entrees, and an epic dessert.
